Artist Statement

Growing up in Hays, Kansas, I always had an eye for art. I come from a family with little artistic background, but this didn't stop my drive for wanting to understand and create art. I grew up with a passion for graphic and web design more than any other art form. I remember the first time I decided graphic design was what I wanted to do with my life. I was just a little boy sitting in front of the television when an Air Jordan commercial came on and changed my life forever. It was a commercial for the release of the Air Jordan 8 shoe in 1993. It featured Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny in one of my first and most beloved memories of advertising. After seeing the commercial, I became a Michael Jordan fanatic and Nike advertising junkie. I found every ounce of my inspiration in becoming a designer solely on the idea of putting myself in that position to represent someone like Michael Jordan. I still hold true to this idea in that I just graduated from Fort Hays State University with a BFA in graphic design in the pursuit of that dream. Before attending FHSU, I had a limited view of what all graphic design was about. After being a part of the unique program, I now find myself in a wonderful position of growing and expanding my knowledge in the field of graphic design. Not only has the program taught me technique and skill, but it has given me the insight of conceptual design, one of the most important tools in becoming a successful designer. I hope to use these tools and dreams to pursue an illustrious career in my artistic future.
